Department of Medical Devices Engineering Technology

Al-Hussein University College established the Department of Medical Device Engineering Technology in 2010, as one of the engineering departments required in the labor market and is considered the first among private universities and colleges. The duration of study is four academic years, during which the graduate is awarded a Bachelor's degree in Medical Device Engineering Technology. The main reason for establishing the department is the need of the labor market for engineers specialized in designing, developing, examining and maintaining medical devices to serve the Iraqi community based on the health sector's need for this specialty, especially after the major industrial revolutions in the field of medical devices, as medical device engineering technology is considered one of the latest engineering sciences that emerged with the development of modern medicine, as the highly developed medical device has become an essential counterpart to the doctor in diagnosing, treating and monitoring patients. Therefore, one of the priorities of developing the department's curricula was to harness the basics of electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering in addition to physics, chemistry and medical sciences for the student to combine medical knowledge with engineering depth in order to understand the mechanism of each system and direct his knowledge and specialization to maintain and develop these devices and to be able to deal with doctors and their needs to serve patients. Over the four academic years, the student will gain experience from highly qualified instructors, which will help him understand the basics of engineering and medical sciences and enhance his scientific, research and educational capabilities, so that he graduates as an engineer capable of dealing with medical devices and the needs of doctors and patients alike with efficiency, professionalism and high morals.

Department Vision

Expanding the medical engineering knowledge base and its applications for the purpose of providing engineering services to support modern medicine in the processes of diagnosing, examining, monitoring and following up on patients, in addition to providing accurate data for analysis and making sound decisions. In addition to qualifying scientific competencies in the field of medical equipment technology by keeping pace with scientific developments in similar specializations in reputable international universities and their research centers.

The department adopts a distinguished engineering message in its general framework and seeks to achieve the granting of knowledge in the precise specialization in a way that supports medical specializations. The general goal of the department is focused on graduating medical engineering technical cadres with a high level of science and knowledge who are able to work in the health sectors and keep pace with the revolution of technological development in the field of medical device technologies.

Department Objectives

Providing the student with sufficient scientific skills that enable him to examine, diagnose malfunctions in medical devices and maintain them.

The graduate engineer’s ability to be familiar with all parts of different medical devices in keeping with technological development.

Providing the student with research knowledge that enables him to research and investigate to keep pace with the wheel of scientific research and modern industries in the field of medical devices.

Working to establish strong and joint scientific and research relations with similar departments in government universities and reputable international universities by concluding joint cooperation agreements and participating in seminars, courses and training workshops.

Providing scientific, technical and research consultations to departments to solve some scientific and specialized problems needed by some related institutions.

The department seeks to achieve the Iraqi institutional accreditation standards in addition to entering the international classifications in the field of specialization with similar colleges.
