Al-Hussein University College Holds an Awareness Seminar on Using Alternatives to Chlorine for Water Disinfection

In line with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to implement the national strategy for higher education and to promote environmental culture and awareness, and under the patronage of Dr. Saleh Al-Qarawi, the Dean of Al-Hussein University College, the Continuing Education Department, in cooperation with the Sustainable Energy Committee at the college, organized a scientific seminar titled "Using Alternatives to Chlorine for Water Disinfection."

The seminar was presented by Dr. Ala' Hussein Wadi, a faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Babylon.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the harms and risks associated with using chlorine as a disinfectant in water treatment plants, particularly its effects on the immune system.

The lecturer also reviewed a new and developed type of disinfecting filters (sand filters enhanced with electrodes made of silver) in water treatment plants as an alternative to using chemical substances.

The seminar was attended by the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, the Head of the Department of Dentistry, a number of faculty members, staff, and students, and was moderated by Dr. Sabah Al-Jabari.
