Under the patronage of the Dean of Al-Hussain University College, Prof. Dr. Saleh Mahdi Maarij Al-Quraawi, Al-Hussain University College held a scientific symposium titled:
“Cybercrimes in Iraq: Preventing Yourself from Becoming a Victim or an Offender within a Culture of Social Awareness.”
The symposium commenced at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, in the college’s Grand Conference Hall, with the participation of a distinguished group of specialists and academics in the fields of cybersecurity and cybercrime.
The symposium was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Redha Saeed, and coordinated by Brig. Eng. Ziyad Abdul Sahib Al-Kalkawi, Director of the Cybercrime Combat Unit.
The symposium sessions were presented by:
Asst. Prof. Dr. Saif Hussam Abdulwahid – Head of the Department of Media Technology and Communication Engineering
Dr. Mithaq Talib Jabbar – Director of the Middle Euphrates Office, Communications and Media Commission
Col. Dr. Wissam Abdul Kareem Al-Wazzan – Directorate of Cybercrime Combat
Eng. Maytham Salahuddin Darwish – Cybercrime Combat Directorate – Holy Karbala
Col. Mina’a Kazem – Cybercrime Combat Directorate – Holy Karbala
The symposium addressed the latest methods of electronic crime, prevention techniques, and mechanisms for strengthening community awareness, in addition to discussing the legal frameworks that regulate handling digital crimes in Iraq.
The event was attended by Dr. Ghufran Iqbal Al-Shammari, Member of the Iraqi Parliament, and Sheikh Adel Makki Al-Yassin, along with several prominent figures, as well as a notable presence of the college’s faculty members and students.
