Scientific seminar entitled: Developing specialized skills

In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to implement the National Strategy for Education and Higher Education for the year 2024 and under the patronage of the Dean of Al-Hussein University College, Professor Dr. Saleh Mahdi Maaraj Al-Qarawi, the Continuing Education Division at the college held a training course entitled (Developing Specialized Skills), Dr. Ahmed Jabbar Abbas, a faculty member at the college, lectured in it. The course included two axes: the first is predatory journals and the second is predatory scientific conferences. In the first axis, the lecturer focused on the risks and impact of predatory journals that publish research for the purpose of financial gain only and have no relation to scientific integrity and scientific evaluation. These journals have spread in recent years. The lecturer pointed out the loss of the researcher's scientific efforts and his rights arising from the results of scientific research when publishing in these journals. He also explained how to identify the indicators and characteristics of predatory publishers and how to avoid them? As for the second axis, the lecturer reviewed the importance of solid academic scientific conferences that provide opportunities for researchers to present their scientific products and learn about recent developments in their field of specialization and conduct meetings and exchange ideas with researchers from academic or industrial institutions and others. He stressed the existence of predatory scientific conferences that do not adopt scientific standards in publishing. The symposium was attended by the Scientific Assistant, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Abdullah, and a number of teaching staff and employees, and was moderated by Professor Dr. Sabah Rasool Al-Jabri.
